Immunotherapy

Does your pet continuously scratch themselves? Is their skin red and inflamed? Are they experiencing hair loss on portions of their body? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, there is a possibility your precious pet is suffering from allergies. Fortunately, the experienced veterinarians at All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center can diagnose and treat allergic conditions, using a safe and effective treatment known as immunotherapy (often referred to as “allergy shots”). All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center has been successfully treating allergic conditions in pets in the Asheville area for many years, and they look forward to caring for your constant pet as well.

What can cause allergic reactions in my pet?

There are many issues that could cause allergies in your pet, including flea allergy dermatitis, food allergy, and atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is caused when a pet is allergic to something in their environment such as dust, pollen, or grass. The doctors at All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center can perform allergy testing to determine the underlying cause of the itch in your pet.

What is immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy for people is often referred to as “allergy shots,” and the treatment available in veterinary medicine works the same as in human medicine. Immunotherapy involves either an injection or placing a small amount of the substance that triggers the allergic response under the tongue of the patient. Over time, these tiny amounts of the allergen are increased, which allows the body to develop a tolerance to the substance, causing the response to the allergy to diminish over time. Immunotherapy is a favored treatment of the doctors at All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center due to the safety and effectiveness in treating allergic conditions.

Please remember that some allergic conditions may take a significant amount of time to diagnose and bring under control. If you feel your pet may be suffering from an allergic condition, please call All Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for a consultation.
